ASTM A307 Sizes & Specifications
The ASTM A307 specification covers carbon steel bolts, rods/studs, and anchor bolts ranging from 1/4″ through 4″ diameter. This is your everyday, run-of-the-mill bolt specification, often manufactured using an A36 round bar. They have low hardness and tensile requirements and are generally used in low-pressure, standard, or average-temperature applications. There are three grades: A, B, and C*, which denote tensile strength, configuration, and application.
You will often hear about A307 and Grade 2 bolts as being equivalent. While slight differences exist, they are referred to as “low carbon” fasteners. A307 is an ASTM (industrial) spec, while Grade 2 is an SAE J429 Grade 2 (automotive) spec.
