Heavy Hex Cap Screws
US INCH STANDARDS & METRICS
As a leading hex head screw distributor, Bayou City Bolt, offers Heavy Hex Cap Screws which have hexagonal heads and machine threads for use with a nut or in a tapped hole. They are generally used in precise applications such as OEM settings where tight tolerances are required. The most common grades for Inch Standard Hex Cap Screws are 2, 5 and 8.
Grade 2 Hex Cap Screws
Grade 2 Hex Cap Screws are crafted from low to medium carbon steel and represent a cost-effective option suitable for non-critical applications where the screws are not exposed to extreme temperatures or excessive stress.
Grade 5 Hex Cap Screws
Grade 5 Hex Cap Screws are made of medium carbon steel and undergo heat treatment, resulting in greater strength when compared to Grade 2 screws.
Grade 8 Hex Cap Screws
Grade 8 Hex Cap Screws are also manufactured from medium carbon steel and subjected to heat treatment. Grade 8 screws exhibit even higher tensile strength than Grade 5 screws, making them specifically engineered for demanding, high-stress applications.
Some of the basic features of Heavy Hex Cap Screws are as follows:
- Flat washer facing under the head that meets specific tolerances outlined in ASME B18.2.1-1996
- Manufactured by a cold-heading process
- A radius under the head at the shank
- Tighter tolerances than a standard Hex bolt
- No seams across any bearing surfaces
